Man sentenced to life without parole for deadly stabbing at Garden Grove tea house

SANTA ANA A 24-year-old Anaheim man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday for fatally stabbing a janitor more than 20 times in a Garden Grove tea house. A jury in October found that Robert Gabriel Rodgers was sane on Nov. 14, 2014 when he killed Caesar Ramirez-Raphael, 24, in the Volcano Tea House.

Anaheim man faces 120 years in prison for wielding ax at La Habra officers

SANTA ANA A 48-year-old Anaheim man is facing 120-years-to life in prison for wielding an ax at La Habra police officers when they responded to his motor home for a welfare check. A jury on Thursday convicted Dan James Schuneman of multiple felony counts of assault on a peace officer and resisting orders for the July 4 incident outside of his motor home in the parking lot of a T.J. Maxx on Imperial Highway.

Teen Band Red Letter Day Wins John Lennon Songwriting Contest

Local rock band Red Letter Day was chosen as a winner of the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest for their original song, " 202 ." The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus announced that the winning band will perform at the 2018 National Association of Music Merchants Show in Anaheim, California on Jan. 28. Founded in 1997, the JLSC is a premiere international, year-long competition open to both amateur and professional songwriters.

Clearing of homeless encampments moves to Angel Stadium area as more people are relocated Thursday

About 100 more people were expected to be moved into motel rooms or shelters Thursday from tent encampments along the Santa Ana River Trail as the county turned it attention southward to homeless people clustered near Angel Stadium. Despite some ongoing challenges in securing motel rooms that are being rented on a weekly basis, county officials said they were hopeful that the west bank of the flood control channel between Katella and Orangewood Avenues could be cleared by day's end.

It was tough to tell who was having more fun: WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol , or the two dozen teens who met with him and watched him train at the Legendz Gym on Tuesday, February 20. When Bivol learned about the partnership between gym owner Roger Ruiz and the Anaheim, California based "Faith Fighters International" youth organization, which teaches kids to use faith and sports to overcome personal obstacles, it reminded him of his own youth, and his own young children. "When I heard about this, I thought about what I've been through, and how I got to where I am today ... Roger and Legendz Boxing told us about this organization, and the fact there are these kids coming in to train.

Orange County's riverside homeless begin trading tents for motels

The crowd of homeless men and women lined up along the Santa Ana River trail to collect motel vouchers before biding goodbye to Orange County's largest homeless camp. Kathy Schuler, 62, left, who was released from jail Tuesday evening, is given a hug by her granddaughter Ashley Foster, 23, where they live at a homeless encampment.
