3 hours 3 min ago
Brandon Nimmo extended his on-base streak to eight straight plate appearances in a 4-for-4 night, tallying a single, two doubles and a triple to lead the Mets' 13-hit attack and back Steven Matz in a shutout of the Brewers at Miller Park.

Nimmo hits for cycle in 4 ABs over 2 games

5 hours 7 min ago
Brandon Nimmo hit for the cycle. Sort of. Nimmo opened Thursday's game against the Brewers with a double and a triple in his first two at-bats, after homering and singling in his final two at-bats Wednesday against the Marlins.

Thor, Mets set to battle Brewers

6 hours 38 min ago
Though Noah Syndergaard has been effective all season, he hasn't always been dominant. The Mets hope Syndergaard turned a corner in his last start, when he held the D-backs to one run in seven innings. He'll return to the mound Friday for a rematch against the Brewers, facing right-hander Junior Guerra in an 8:10 p.m. ET game at Miller Park.

Callaway says Familia having 'career year'

7 hours 13 min ago
Far from ready to shake up the ninth inning, Mets manager Mickey Callaway on Thursday threw his full support behind closer Jeurys Familia, who has blown four of his first 17 save opportunities -- including one Wednesday in a 2-1 loss to the Marlins.

Alonso among NL East prospects to watch

16 hours 43 min ago
The National League East has proven through the start of the season that it will be one of the most interesting divisions to watch throughout this baseball season. There were four teams within 3 1/2 games of first place entering Wednesday with a lot to sort out and the fifth team surprising some with its competitive start.

deGrom takes NL ERA lead, but 'pen blows win

May 23, 2018 - 8:37pm
Earlier this month, Mets pitching coach Dave Eiland created a minor stir when he called out Noah Syndergaard's relative lack of big league accomplishments, in quotes that appeared in the New York Post. Eiland's contention was that at age 25, for all the hype that surrounds him, Syndergaard remains an unfinished product. When asked Wednesday if that same line of thinking applies to Jacob deGrom, Mets manager Mickey Callaway offered a full-throated disagreement.

Matz looks for length as Mets open road trip

May 23, 2018 - 4:04pm
Outside of Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, the Mets have received little consistency from their rotation this season. Steven Matz will look to change that when he opens the team's four-game series Thursday in Milwaukee, starting an 8:10 p.m. ET game opposite Brewers right-hander Zach Davies. Matz has pitched into the sixth inning just once in eight starts.

Lugo's ownership of lefties reaching elite levels

May 23, 2018 - 3:58pm
The roots of Seth Lugo's scoreless-innings streak -- a career-high 14 innings and counting entering Wednesday's play -- are not much different than the origins of his success as a big league pitcher. Lugo is throwing his curveball early and often, generating whiffs and soft contact seemingly at will.

Bautista's day starts in Fla., ends in Mets' lineup

May 22, 2018 - 8:53pm
About four and a half hours before their game against the Marlins on Tuesday, the Mets agreed to terms on a one-year deal to bring Jose Bautista to Flushing, adding some right-handed thump -- albeit 37-year-old thump -- to a lineup in obvious need of it. The Mets just so happened to be facing a left-handed pitcher that night, creating an ideal situation for their newest player.

Bautista's run all Mets manage behind Wheeler

May 22, 2018 - 7:18pm
The Mets' acquisition of Jose Bautista on Tuesday, and their promise of playing time to him, was an open acknowledgement of a withering lineup. Since the start of May, only one big league club has scored fewer runs per game than the Mets. Perhaps Bautista, even at age 37, could fix that.

Mets, elite deGrom go for series win vs. Fish

May 22, 2018 - 5:05pm
Jacob deGrom lost his scoreless-innings streak in his last outing, but that was a small consolation for one of the National League's best pitchers. deGrom will put his 4-0 record and 1.75 ERA on the line when he squares off against right-hander Dan Straily in a 7:10 p.m. ET game Wednesday against the Marlins at Citi Field.

Plawecki to begin rehab stint Wednesday

May 22, 2018 - 4:35pm
When the Mets acquired Devin Mesoraco from the Reds earlier this month, they indicated that Mesoraco's health history -- two hip surgeries and a shoulder operation, among other maladies -- would prevent him from playing every day. But Mesoraco has started most games at catcher for the Mets, largely because he has performed so well.

Bautista was a Met in '04 ... and didn't realize it

Wheeler takes mound as Mets go for 5 in a row

May 21, 2018 - 9:12pm
Like Jason Vargas, who took a significant step forward Monday against the Marlins, Zack Wheeler could use a return to form when he starts tonight. Wheeler, who has allowed 15 runs in his last three starts, will take on left-hander Caleb Smith in a 7:10 p.m. ET game at Citi Field.

Vargas returns to form as Mets win 4th straight

May 21, 2018 - 7:04pm
Jason Vargas, whose turn in the rotation was skipped last time out, went five innings and struck out a season-high seven batters as the Mets extended their win streak to four. Asdrubal Cabrera's RBI double was the lone run given up by Rule 5 Draft pick Elieser Hernandez, who pitched five innings of one-run ball for the second straight start.

Vargas dominant in return after long layoff

May 21, 2018 - 5:43pm
Jason Vargas took a significant step toward righting his season on Monday, blanking the Marlins over five innings at Citi Field.

Mets allowing Reyes to work through slide

May 21, 2018 - 3:48pm
Although Jose Reyes endured a poor start to last season, by mid-May he was already making up for it, well on his way to a productive campaign. This year, that rebound has not occurred. Reyes is in an 0-for-8 slide and is 2-for-22 in May. Combined with his 0-for-20 skid to open the season, Reyes is batting just .132 with a .367 OPS.
