Army Sgt. Felix Delgreco of Simsbury was a member of C Company, 102nd Infantry in Bristol, CT. He was killed on April 9, 2004 while on patrol in Baghdad. His vehicle struck an improvised explosive device and was subsequently attacked by small arms fire. Sgt. Delgreco was the first member of the Connecticut Army National Guard to be Killed in Action during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was only 22 years old and had already served two other tours of duty. One in Bosnia where his exceptional service was recognized by being honored Enlisted Soldier of the Deployment. The other at West Point where he provided enhanced homeland defense following the September 11th attacks. Outside of the military, he graduated from Simsbury High School in 1999 even though he was actually part of the class of 2000. After high school, he attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA until he was again called back to service. He also obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in The Boy Scouts of America.
